How to Find Your Ring Size at Home (US Sizes 7 to 12)
Short answer: measure the inside diameter of a ring that fits you, or the circumference of your finger with a strip of paper, then match it to the chart below. Between two sizes, choose the larger one: a silicone band hugs the finger.
Method 1: measure a ring you already wear
- Pick a ring that fits the finger you want to wear the new one on.
- Place it on a ruler and measure the inside diameter, from one inner edge to the other, in millimeters.
- Find the closest diameter in the chart.
Method 2: measure your finger with paper
- Cut a thin strip of paper, about 1/4 inch wide.
- Wrap it around the base of your finger, snug but not tight.
- Mark where the paper overlaps, lay it flat and measure the length in millimeters.
- Find the closest circumference in the chart.
US ring size chart
| US size | Inside diameter | Circumference |
|---|---|---|
| 7 | 17.3 mm | 54.4 mm |
| 8 | 18.1 mm | 57.0 mm |
| 9 | 18.9 mm | 59.5 mm |
| 10 | 19.8 mm | 62.1 mm |
| 11 | 20.6 mm | 64.6 mm |
| 12 | 21.4 mm | 67.2 mm |
Tips for an accurate measurement
- Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are at their largest.
- Avoid measuring when your hands are cold.
- If your knuckle is wider than the base of your finger, measure both and choose a size in between.
- Your dominant hand is usually slightly larger.
